Greetings, fellow yacht enthusiasts! This is Jimmy Chang, reporting in with another awesome journey across the Adriatic sea in Croatia. This summer holiday, my wife Rachel and our little two boys were eager to get our adventure started in Croatia, so we decided to visit the picturesque town and harbor of Cavtat. We've heard much about the place from our friends and relatives who had previously been to Croatia and were very satisfied with what Cavtat had to offer.

The town of Cavtat is situated near Dubrovnik in Croatia, and is the last recognized harbor before the border with Montenegro. A long journey awaited us, so that is why we rented a charter yacht from the Croatian company that specializes in booking charter yachts – SailingEurope. Once we were settled with a nice boat, we were ready to embark on an epic “quest” for adventure and fun. My two boys love it when I make a story out of our travels, it is like fuel for their imagination.

As we set sail for Cavtat we couldn't sustain our excitement to what glorious sights we would encounter on our journey. First stop was the main harbor of Cavtat, where we set anchor and continued our exploration of the town on foot. Cavtat is a popular destination for day trippers like ourselves traveling from Dubrovnik and the waterfront is consequently packed with numerous fish restaurants catering for this trade. Food was delicious! Very tasty, much to our liking. From various tourist attractions we were very intrigued by the 16th century Rector's Palace, the diminutive baroque church of St Nicholas and the monastery of Our Lady of the Snow. Afterwards we visited a gallery dedicated to Cavtat's most famous son, the modernist painter Vlaho Bukovac.

We then continued for a nice walk on one of the rock pools. The esplanade lead into a path that went for several kilometers around the waterfront, up the hill and around the corner. We walked the trail for a half hour and found it most interesting. We saw some old houses, a farmland and an interesting waterfront. We even found a little rock pool that looked as though it had been there for centuries. Alas, we couldn't continue further because the rain clouds were fast approaching and we had to quickly return to the town and the safety of a nice restaurant.

The boys were fed up with fish and local cuisine, so we took them to a pizza restaurant. Lucky for us, the Buffet Atlas had decent offers, featuring mostly pizzas of various kinds. Their specialty being the focaccia pizza which is a kind of pizza with a different kind of dough that absorbs more olive oil, resulting with a nice and flavory filling. You can never go wrong with pizzas when you're a parent!

Well, that about sums up our Cavtat experience. Sorry we didn't have more time to explore the town and its habits, but we promised each other to return back next year and finish our “quest”. For now, I leave you with a picture of Cavtat and a friendly goodbye to my faithful readers. Take care and have a safe trip!
